Chester

Meet

My 5 month old Americana rooster.

This proud boy was added to my flock of hens to keep them in line. He does a wonderful job.

It all started with the idea of raising back yard feathered friends. Then I set out to find the perfect chicken coop. Got the coop and then found 8 pullets. They were only 4 months old at the time I pick out each one of them and brought them home. Then there needed to be a coop run added. It's rather tall, but it is just right for my flock of birds. Adding a rooster wasn't easy. I looked a long time until I found the right one. Chester was brought home and from day one he fit right in. Some told me that it might take the rooster a week before he would start his cock-a-doodle-do, well he did it the very next day.

Each chicken that I picked out and brought home was a beautiful bird. I have named each one.

There is: Annabelle, Emmy, Mabel, Sassy Sally, Ruby, Hanna, Powder Puff and Ziggy.

Then I made a sign for everyone to see who my chickens were. I painted the hens and put their names along side each chicken I painted. I wanted to keep in the barn yard theme, so I made the sign out of old scrap picket fence pieces of wood I already had. Stay tuned to things I add to my coop area. I'm always trying to add things to make their area feel like home.

My hens give me farm fresh eggs each day. They lay nice green eggs, with a few brown and cream colored eggs. I'm so proud of them.
